Roadsign: Hope Ahead

It had been a whirlwind trip to Texas.

When all was said and done, aside from feeling empowered and able to face the joys and challenges that lay ahead on 'the Adoption Highway', we left Texas feeling hopeful...hopeful about our future.

With our dossier being complete including immigration approval, we were anxiously awaiting news about the next step in the process.

While at Gladney, our caseworker presented us with a Plan A and a Plan B for the future of our dossier.  Though we were pleased with Plan B, it was not what we were hoping for.  Plan A is what made us smile from ear to ear.

(Honestly, Plan A made my heart leap!)

On the way home, we couldn't help but daydream and talk about the possibilities Plan A held.  Although uncertain of whether this plan would come to fruition, we prayed and dared to talk about the what-ifs, the whens, and the whys.

It was exciting, after all..."Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose excitement of possibilities.  Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning." Gloria Steinem

We finally landed at RDU and exited the plane.

Stepping off the plane and walking toward the arrival gate, I became overwhelmed with tears.

They did not spill from my eyes, but they were there.

With every step I took, I became more and more emotional.  I locked arms with Knight-in-Shining Armor and said,

"The next time I do this, I will be walking off the plane with Thunder and Lightning."

He responded lovingly,

"I think you will."

As we took the turn toward baggage claim, uncontrollably my tears began to flow.

I was completely overcome by the thought of Thunder and Lightning being by my side the next time I walked this walk.  God's presence in that moment was tangible.

Looking ahead I noticed a large gathering of people in the "Meeting Area" of the airport.

Balloons and banners hung everywhere.

People were smiling and tears were flowing.  You could feel the emotion in the air.

In one of the MOST surreal of moments of my life I looked to my right and saw a mother down on one knee surrounded by a group of teary eyed tweens all in white t-shirts.

On mother's knee was a baby...a beautiful dark skinned baby in a beaded toga style shirt.

My eyes met the baby's eyes.  For a split second we were lost in each other's gaze.

Knight-in-Shining Armor said,

"Look!  It's a welcome home party.  Someone just adopted a baby."

Sobbing profusely now, I whispered,

"I know.  I know."

How sweet.  How overwhelming.  How BEAUTIFUL.  How hopeful.

Bowing my head, placing my hand upon my heart, I uttered the words,

"Thank you, Jesus.  Thank you for the little glimpses.  Thank you for the hope."

"I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land.  I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Genesis 28:15
